There’s no need to go over the rainbow to find some fun this week in San Diego.
Starting Tuesday, the Broadway spectacle “The Wizard of Oz” will be performing at the Civic Theatre in downtown. The show has been described as a wonderful outing for the entire family because of its mild themes and colorful performance.
The play is based on the original 1939 MGM movie of the same name, which follows a young girl named Dorothy and her little dog Toto on an adventure to find her way back home. Along the way she meets a lively group of characters including the Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow, all of whom help Dorothy on her journey.
The roles of the munchkins will be performed by 10 children from San Diego’s own J Company. The actors, ranging from ages 11 to 13, will dance and help sing songs such as “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead.”
“The Wizard of Oz” will be performing in San Diego until Feb. 20. For tickets or more information, visit broadwaysd.com.
