Crime beat: Suspicious characters

A man with a book in one hand and a drink in the other was seen talking to himself and bystanders around 4:40 p.m. on Feb. 16 near Scripps Cottage.

The person who reported the incident to San Diego State police said the man seemed aggressive.

Police asked him to leave campus. Capt. Josh Mays said the man did not meet the requirements for a mental health hold.

There were no details about what book he was reading that possibly incited such behavior.

Officers stop domestic violence dispute

Police intervened in a verbal domestic violence dispute across from the University Towers residence hall at 11:51 p.m. on Feb. 17.

An officer observed the verbal dispute and determined it was not a crime.

Man passed out off base

A 19-year-old man wearing an American flag shirt was found passed out near the front door of Chapultepec Residence Hall around 4 a.m. on Feb. 20.

Mays said the man was not a student, but rather an intoxicated military member who thought he was on base. A taxi was called to provide him a ride back to the actual base.
