Now that U.S. officials have confirmed the death of terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, they have released more details about the operation.
Officials said, with help from the Pakistani government, bin Laden was found staying in a Pakistani compound. The operation was extremely secretive – only a few U.S. officials were aware of the circumstances.
In a national security address Sunday night, President Barack Obama briefly described how U. S. intelligence found the 9 / 11 mastermind. The president started by saying he met with CIA Director Leon Panetta shortly after taking office to make sure finding bin Laden was a “top priority.”
Obama said he was originally briefed last August on a possible lead to bin Laden and as more information came in up until last week, he decided it was “time to take action.”
“Justice has been done,” he said.
Obama continued to urge Americans to come together in light of this event, similar to how they did after 9/11.
“We must, and we will, remain vigilant,” Obama said.
