WATERLOO, Iowa–A 46-year-old man was arrested after students atHawkeye Community College found him having sexual intercourse with asheep in the school farm hayloft.
Richard Broderson was arrested for animal abuse, a misdemeanorpunishable by up to two years in prison, and criminal trespass, amisdemeanor carrying a maximum 30-day jail sentence, said Black HawkAssistant County Attorney Daniel Davis. The county attorney has notyet formally indicted Broderson on the charges, she said.
Several students and a faculty member found Broderson at 8:04 a.m.Oct. 25, naked in the hayloft with the sheep tied up in a corner,police said. Police found a blue nightgown next to the sheep, but itwas not clear if it had been worn by Broderson, the sheep, or at all.
“The farm manager and the students just kind of stood there,shocked, until the police arrived,” said Deb Martin, director ofpublic relations for the Waterloo, Iowa college. The farm manager, afaculty member at the college, later examined the sheep and foundthat is was sexually assaulted, she said.
Iowa has no specific laws pertaining to bestiality, said Waterloopolice Capt. Steve Witt, and therefore charged Broderson with animalabuse.
