After several years of an on-going civil war between the North and the South Sudanese, the United Nations welcomes its 193 member, South Sudan, on July 9.

The new country, expected to be a prosperous nation due to the revenue form southern oil fields and being in one of the most fertile regions in the whole African continent is also, located in one of the least developed areas in the world were only 16% of women can read and write.

Despite the formal separation, the newly separated countries have yet to resolve other conflicts such as, where to draw the border line and divide Sudan’s debts and oil wealth.
