With the end of semester around the corner, studying has become inconceivable. Between roommates yammering on about their drama and the temptation to take a “brief nap,” attempting to study in a dorm room is just not cutting it anymore. Even the library has lost its luster, resembling more of a watering hole than a study haven. Perhaps these top five hidden study spots at San Diego State can be just that.
#5 The Fern Garden: The Fern Garden, located behind the life science building, is home to fungi, passion flowers, dragonflies and a few picnic tables perfect for studying. This serene area is always quiet. The only downside is there is nowhere to charge one’s laptop.
#4 Calpulli Center fourth floor patio: Everyone knows about the services provided within Calpulli: from the relaxing “egg” chairs to getting immunizations, but not too many people know that there is a huge patio section located on the fourth floor with an array of different chairs, tables and benches. This area is always empty and has a great view of the ENS field and the Don Powell Theatre.
#3 Arts and Letters sixth floor patio: Located at the very top of the Arts and Letters building, the AL patio is even more gorgeous. This patio overlooks Storm Hall, but campus life is visible all the way to ENS. This secluded area is perfect for enjoying some of the elements of nature while remaining cool under the umbrella attached to the patio furniture.
#2 The Media Center: The Media Center is located at the basement level inside of the dome, but what many students do not know is that private rooms can be rented, equipped with a Mac, PC or Toshiba TV. Group study rooms are available as well, with space for up to 15 students.
#1 The secret library: The Professional Fine Arts and Studies library, or secret library, is located on the basement level of PSFA in the School of Public Affairs. This charming little library is filled with thousands of pre-law books and very few people. It looks like a set from Harry Potter. It may give off a bit of a creepy vibe because of the lack of people, but with large windows overlooking AL, spacious seating and quiet atmosphere, this is the best and most often overlooked place to study on campus.
