SOFTBALL: Beasley dominates in rivalry game

Sophomore pitcher Samantha Beasley wouldn’t say what her best pitch was in last night’s 1-0 victory over crosstown rival USD, but she did give a little insight into her dominating night.

“I was pretty much in the zone,” Beasley said. “All of (my pitches) were working pretty well.”

In a relief appearance, Beasley threw 4 1/3 no-hit innings and picked up the victory as the San Diego State softball team beat the Toreros at the SDSU Softball Stadium. Beasley struck out 11 of the 13 batters she faced and didn’t allow a ball to leave the infield.

“It feels amazing,” Beasley said after the game. “I’m just glad our team actually got some hit this game and got us a run early.”

The win boosts SDSU’s record to 6-8 this season and gives the team confidence after last weekend’s 1-3 performance at the Fifth Annual Mardi Gras Invitational in Lafayette, La.

“It’s a really big win,” Beasley said. “I feel like we came back and we bounced back.”

The Aztecs will kick off the San Diego Class I at 7 p.m. tomorrow against Oregon at the SDSU Softball Stadium.
