FOR YOUR EARS ONLY: Bauhaus, Go away white, bauhaus music

If you haven’t heard of the band Bauhaus, it isn’t surprising.

Formed in the late ’70s, Bauhaus hasn’t actually put out any albums since 1992, which is probably a time when most of our generation was still watching “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”

However, if you’re into glam rock, you may be interested in the eclectic sound that Bauhaus has created in its new album, “Go Away White.” It’s a sound reminiscent of other notables, such as David Bowie, Queen and even Lou Reed.

A mix between rock ‘n’ roll, pop, punk and electric, Bauhaus feels like a British version of the band Kiss. With tracks such as “Endless Summer Of the Damned,” it becomes evident why in some circles Bauhaus is considered gothic. The lyrics are shadowy, yet hip; the beats are complicated while still feeling slightly catchy.

Contemporary artists such as Trent Reznor and Marilyn Manson seem to have adopted the darkness and androgyny that Bauhaus exudes, but it should always be noted that glam rock is far older than these artists and that the glitter scene has always had far deeper roots.

For a taste of something old and something new, Bauhaus will not disappoint listeners.
