SUSHIWINNER: Tokyo SushiOther Favorites: Sushi Deli, Ra Sushi
Tokyo Sushi Loha is to Japanese food as Trujillo’s is to Mexican food for San Diego State students. Both restaurants offer delicious options, but do they really deserve to be the “best” semester after semester?Perhaps it wins “Best of State” because of its location, however, there are plenty of other affordable sushi bars in San Diego. Sushi Deli in Hillcrest has a wide menu selection and nightly specials. Or if one wants sushi with ambiance, RA Sushi downtown is the place to be. A personal favorite for fancy – and artistic – rolls is Islands Sushi & Pupu Bar in Mission Valley. But if your car refuses to take you past SDSU, Tokyo Sushi Loha isn’t a bad choice for sushi. The loud hip-hop music and decorative walls and ceiling make the restaurant an ideal pick for college students.Tokyo Suhi Loha has a large menu that caters to raw fish lovers and meat eaters alike. It has chicken and beef bento sets, which cost $8.50. Bento sets are served with a bed of rice, miso soup, salad and a pumpkin dessert tea.Owner Kenny Kim has been in the sushi business for almost 20 years, so customers can expect a wide variety of nigiri and specialty rolls. Two pieces of nigiri costs about $3.50, and specialty rolls cost up to $11.Whether it’s the price, location, atmosphere – or maybe even the sushi – this restaurant has proven its popularity in the College Area.Advice to SDSU students: Try to make it to the other side of Interstate 8 next semester for sushi.
