The ‘80s are coming back to San Diego next week as the musical “Rock of Ages” makes an appearance at the Civic Theatre.
Described as “a good time where big hair meets big dreams,” the Tony-nominated musical tells the story of a small-town girl who meets a big-city dreamer on the Sunset Strip in 1987 Los Angeles. Their love story is told through rock classics from bands such as Journey, Styx, Foreigner and Whitesnake. Taking place in an era when the biggest musical hits were “Walk Like and Egyptian” by the Bangles and “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi, this show promises to bring the rock as well as the fun.
“Rock of Ages” will be performing March 27 through April 1 and offers a chance to see it live before the movie version is released later this year, directed by Adam Shankman (“Hairspray”). Tickets can be purchased at ticketmaster.com or by calling 888-937-8995. Group discounts are available. More information can be found as broadwaysd.com.
The musical is directed by Kristin Hanggi and choreographed by Kelly Devine. The book is by Chris D’Arienzo and original arrangements are by David Gibbs of Counting Crows.
