The San Diego State’s women’s golf team opened its 2013 season this week at The Minnesota Invitational at the Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Minn. where after two days of competition it tied for fourth place; two spots higher than it had been at the end of the previous day.
SDSU came in behind Kent State University, the University of Illinois and University of Minnesota, which finished first, second and third, respectively.
Out of 63 competitors, two Aztecs finished in the top 10 for individuals. Freshman Sirene Blair tied for sixth with a 10-over 226, while sophomore Emma Henrikson, who ranked sixth in the Mountain West Conference last year, tied for eighth with 11-over 227.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Lady Aztecs managed to finish at No. 27, 29, 42 and 46.
On Monday, as the first day of the tournament came to an end, Blair was leading the team, tied for fourth place with an impressive score of only 6-over par 150 in her first collegiate appearance.
Blair signed with SDSU last fall out of South Jordan, Utah after winning four consecutive individual 5A state championships at Bingham High School and being named the Utah Junior Golf Association’s Player of the Year on six different occasions.
As a team, the Aztecs were tied for sixth with Georgia Regents University with a score of 42-over 618, trailing the frontrunner, Illinois (+27) by 15.
