Mark your calendars, kids.
On Thursday, the SDSU Men’s Basketball team plays the University of Connecticut in what can only be considered THE GREATEST BASKETBALL GAME IN THE HISTORY OF SDSU, THE UNIVERSE AND EVERYTHING! But just in case you aren’t as excited about it as the rest of the world–I have State loosing to UConn in my bracket–there are other things to see on this day of days, like this weeks free “nooner” artist, Mike Annuzzi.
Coming up from the depths of the Bay Area, Mike Annuzzi is the ultimate acoustic singer/songwriter, kind of like Jack Johnson. Now, I’m sure you are all aware of my legendary contempt for everything Jack Johnson, and with this in mind, I admit that I actually don’t mind Mike Annuzzi’s music that much. I might even like it.
Mike Annuzzi’s music is simple and acoustic and in my opinion, simple and acoustic music is either really good or really bad. In this case, Mike Annuzzi’s music is really good. While Annuzzi’s guitar-playing is basic at best and his voice isn’t something I would write home to Mom about, his songs are emotionally rich and rather catchy. Songs like “Paradise” and “Why, Why, Why” are a little too poppy for my taste, but “Let Me Show You Tonight” has surprising depth and is definitely the jewel of Annuzzi’s acoustic demo.
Jack Johnson comparisons aside, Mike Annuzzi is very good artist who is sure to put on a great show on Thursday. If you can’t stand another double-overtime potential loss by our beloved Aztecs, then head over to the Aztec Center and enjoy the free performance. I know that’s what I’m going to do.
