San Diego State’s leads the Naval Academy 13-7 at halftime in the 2014 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium.
SDSU holds a six-point lead thanks to the right leg of junior kicker Donny Hageman who made two field goals in the first half, setting the school record for most field goals in a single season with 19.
The Aztecs other score came from sophomore running back Donnel Pumphrey on a five-yard scamper late in the first quarter.
Pumphrey rushed for 66 yards in the first half, and is 22 yards away from setting the single-season school rushing record.
SDSU’s defense has held the No. 1 rushing attack in the nation at bay, holding Navy’s leading rusher, junior quarterback Keenan Reynolds, to negative five yards on nine attempts.
Senior linebacker Derek Largent and freshman defensive lineman Sergio Phillips each recorded sacks on back-to-back plays in the second quarter.
Navy’s only touchdown in the first half came on a one-yard run from Reynolds in the first quarter.
