The women of Alpha Chi Omega awoke Sunday morning to find that oneof their wooden front doors and a few other items had been stolenduring the night.
Also taken from the house, located at 5816 Montezuma Road, was aframed copy of the sorority’s charter and a composite photo.
A University police officer found a note in the living room sayingthat all items taken were borrowed and would be returned soon.
Police said that pledges from Alpha Chi Omega had been stealingitems from fraternity houses in the area as part of their initiationinto the sorority, and this incident may have been pay back. Thesorority women had returned all of the items.
The president of Kappa Sigma fraternity called the house mother ofAlpha Chi Omega later that morning and said the door would bereturned within an hour, according to police.
The door was ultimately returned, but the national chapter hasasked the police to pursue an investigation.
Argument leads to arrest
A man was arrested on an outstanding warrant in the College Arealast Monday after getting into an argument with food-service workersat the Monty’s Market on Remington Road.
Davaughn Hardaway, 21, of the 6700 block of Amherst Street, and afemale companion ordered food from the market, and got into anargument with the clerk when they came back to find it had beenthrown away.
They hadn’t returned within 30 minutes, police said, and theirorder had been trashed.
Police said Hardaway went behind the counter and took some foodoff the grill along with an open jar of pickles. When the clerk saidshe was going to call the police, Hardaway dropped the food, set thepickle jar down and ran.
When the University Police located him, they found he had anoutstanding warrant for a parole violation. He was booked into countyjail without bail. The woman was not arrested.
Unlucky car owner’s marijuana confiscated
The owner of an unlocked Honda parked in Parking Structure IIIThursday night may be wondering where his glass pipe and bag of weedare. University Police confiscated the items after discovering themin the glove box of the vehicle.
Police were called after a passerby noticed the car was unlockedand feared it had been broken into. When the officer arrived, he sawa wallet on the dash and opened the door to look for identificationinside.
He noticed the smell of marijuana and opened the glove box to lookfor the vehicle registration. That’s when he found the glass pipe andbag of marijuana.
The officer confiscated the items.
