San Diego Sate University student Raul Quinonez, 20, died early Saturday morning when the car in which he was riding hit three parked cars on College Avenue.
The driver of the vehicle, Aran Ayala, 18, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter.
Quinonez, a sophomore, was returning from Tijuana with friends about 4:30 a.m. when Ayala reportedly fell asleep at the wheel while exiting the 94 freeway onto College Avenue.
The Mitsubishi Mirage rammed another car, and the driver of that car was also killed.
Quinonez was pronounced dead at the scene of massive head injuries.
Another passenger in the Mirage was hospitalized with minor head injuries.
A representative of the family said they wanted Quinonez to be remembered as a humorous individual who always loved to be the center of attention.
Quinonez was planning on becoming a teacher and was the first in his family to attend college.
