Lumpia: an egg roll stuffed with meat and vegetables, is a Filipino delicacy that the San Diego State Andres Bonifacio Samahan group has named their third cultural celebration after.
Lumpia Palooza 3 will start with a lumpia fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow at La Tienda on SDSU’s campus by the Free Speech Steps.
AB Samahan is also having its meeting at noon tomorrow in Council Chambers in Aztec Center, during which there will be a Lumpia Palooza program sponsored by the Cross-Cultural Center about Filipino-American entertainers struggling to break into mainstream pop-culture.
Entertainers like these will be featured during the final event of the day at Lumpia Palooza. The doors open at 6 p.m. and shows begin at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow.
Tickets are sold at Ticketmaster and the Aztec Center Ticket Office, (619) 594-2683. Tickets are $10 per person during the presale period and will be $20 at the door. The presale for the event ends today.
Chairperson of AB Samahan Steven Delizo said the event is a great way to celebrate Filipino culture and have a good time.
Delizo said the proceeds from the event will go toward paying the independent artists who are coming to the show and will also be saved to pay for part of AB Samahan’s Filipino Culture Night – a free event held during the spring semester.
Comedy troupe Abalos Pros will host the event featuring the Basco Brothers (Dante Basco acted the part of Rufio in the movie “Hook”), turn-tablist DJ Kutton Kandi, the rock band Invid, a San Diego dance crew called Select Few and local R&B artist Dane, among others.
This event is open to the public, and attendees who are 21 and older are invited to go to the after-party at Ole Madrid located at 755 Fifth Ave. in downtown San Diego.
