Students will pay $110 toward campus health services starting thisfall.
University President Stephen Weber has approved two health-relatedfee increases passed by students in a referendum last month.
The third fee for increased library services has been forwarded toCalifornia State University Chancellor Charles Reed for approvalbecause it is a new fee for students.
During the referendum, students approved a $15 fee increase forStudent Health Services operations. They currently pay $70 persemester, which allows them to visit the center at no cost and helpssubsidize the cost of medications.
They also overwhelmingly passed a $22 fee increase to construct anew SHS facility near Piedra del Sol. Right now, students pay $3 persemester to support the facility and its maintenance. This amounthasn’t changed since the building was constructed in the 70s.
The new center will open after Spring 2005.
Pending approval from Reed, students will pay $10 per semester forincreased
library hours starting in the fall.
With money generated from the fee, the Reserve Book Room will beextended to 24-hour service and main library and student computingcenter hours will increase to 1 a.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Any additional money will be used to increase access to coursedatabases.
A total of six fees were on the ballot. By wide margins, studentsrejected a $25 fee to provide scholarships to low-income students, a$15 fee to increase retention efforts and cultural enrichmentactivities, and $5 to provide scholarships to students studyingabroad.
A total of 3,269 students, or about 10 percent of the campus,voted.
