SDSU extends head coach’s contract
San Diego State women’s basketball head coach Beth Burns signed a new five-year contract yesterday afternoon, according to San Diego State Athletic Director Jeff Schemmel. The deal is effective immediately and runs through the 2011-12 season.
Burns is entering the third year of her second stint with SDSU. In 2006-07, she led the Aztecs to their most successful season since 2000-01. In addition, she’s recruited well in the past couple of years, signing the last three San Diego Union-Tribune section players of the year.
In Burns’ first term with the Aztecs from 1989-97, she led SDSU to four 20-win seasons and four NCAA Tournament appearances. Her overall coaching record is 247-188 in 15 seasons, including 166 wins with the Aztecs.
