Woman reports assault
A 19-year-old female San Diego State student was reportedly sexually assaulted at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday near Hepner Hall.
A white male, who the woman said she thinks is in his 20s, approached her and said he was doing research on feet for a class, according to the police report.
“The female allowed the subject to examine her foot, and at some point he began rubbing her foot on his groin area,” University Police Lt. Robert McManus said. “Obviously she verbally confronted him, and he fled the area.”
According to the police report, the woman said the man had short, buzzed-cut dark hair and was about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. She further described him as having a long vertical scar on his left shin, a mustache and a goatee.
He was wearing black sunglasses, a short-sleeved dark shirt, dark shorts that extended past his knees, white socks and gray New Balance tennis shoes, she said.
“He was last seen leaving the area on a ‘mini-bicycle’ with chrome handlebars, chrome forks, and the body of the bike was red and black,” McManus said.
McManus asked that anyone who has had a similar encounter or has information about this potential suspect to contact University Police.
Gunman still unidentified
A female campus custodian was reportedly held at gunpoint last week in Hepner Hall by a man who claimed to be from SWAT, McManus said. The custodian said the gunman then fled the area.
There were no suspects at the time, although University Police speculated that the gun owner might have been connected with a University Towers resident who was caught with an airsoft gun Monday night.
“Detectives are still looking into it,” McManus said. “But we’re still leaning toward (the idea that) it was probably a guy playing around at night.
“We went through that building with a fine-toothed comb, and no offices had been burglarized to make us think that somebody had interrupted a crook with a gun.”
Onslaught of vehicle thefts, burglaries
A black, 2004 Toyota Tacoma was reportedly stolen between 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on March 27 from the third level of Parking Structure 4. It was the first of several vehicle thefts and burglaries in parking structures in recent weeks. The truck belongs to a female student and is still missing, McManus said.
Then, between 7 p.m. on March 28 and 1:40 p.m. on March 30 on the top level of PS 3, the driver’s side window of a tan Toyota Highlander was reportedly broken into. A stereo, an iPod and other miscellaneous items were reportedly stolen. McManus said the items have not yet been recovered.
During the third burglary, the convertible top of a white 1995 Mazda Miata was cut open, and a laptop was taken between 4 and 10 p.m. on March 28 on the first level of PS 4. McManus said the car belongs to a male SDSU student.
A white 1993 Mazda Miata of a female student was burglarized between 8 p.m. on Friday and about 5 p.m. on Saturday on the fourth level of PS 3, according to the police report. The passenger-side window was broken and the speakers were stolen.
The fifth and final burglary occurred between 9 p.m. on Friday and 4:20 p.m. on Sunday on the fourth level of PS 3, according to a police report. McManus said the passenger-side window was smashed on a female student’s green 1997 Toyota Corolla, and her stereo was stolen.
Laptop stolen from Chapultepec
A laptop and a backpack that belong to a male student were reportedly stolen at around 2:50 p.m. on March 27 from the student’s 11th-floor residence hall room. There is currently no suspect information, according to the police report.
Traffic stop leads to two arrests
After noticing an expired registration sticker on a white Ford F-150 pickup at 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, University Police pulled the truck over on the 4800 block of College Avenue.
McManus said the officers arrested two 35-year-old men, San Diego residents, who were in the truck. The driver was arrested in suspicion of driving with a suspended license, being in possession of methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia, the police report stated.
The passenger was also arrested and transported to jail for being in possession of methamphetamines, McManus said.
