To start off this year, the Panhellenic Council and Interfraternity Council will be hosting spring recruitment in the first few weeks of the semester.
“Only four chapters are participating and it’s much less formal than the fall,” Recruitment Director Laura Garcia said
Both Panhellenic and IFC have begun to pass out flyers around campus this week and Go Greek information sessions were held earlier this week. All perspective members were required to attend one of these sessions, according the the recruitment website.
Individual chapters recruitment dates vary but three chapters will host their bid day on Feb. 10, Garcia said. Panhellenic recruitment is from Jan. 27 – Feb. 9 and IFC will be the first two weeks of February.
Assistant Director of Student Life & Leadership Yvonne Hernandez said there are four Panhellenic chapters participating in recruitment, including Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Gamma, Delta Zeta an Alpha Epsilon Phi. Nearly all of the IFC chapters are also participating.
The United Sorority and Fraternity Council have also been tabling this week to promote their events for spring recruitment.
“It (spring recruitment) can be a great way to get involved,” Hernandez said. “Especially for first-time freshmen or transfers that put off getting involved to focus on school their first semester. It’s a great time to come and find out more about fraternity and sorority life.”
President of the Inter Fraternity Council, Jonathan Cole said he rushed during spring recruitment.
“I believe spring recruitment is beneficial for men because it gives them the opportunity to learn more about Greek life after semester at state,” Cole said. “I rushed in spring and it was the best decision I made because it allowed me to join Student African American Brotherhood and Associated Students and learn more about the leadership opportunities at SDSU.”
