K.O. Hip Hop Dance Team will have its first annual showcase this Wednesday, 8-10 p.m. The showcase will take place in the Aztec Student Union Theater. Admission is free and food will be provided.
“K.O. stands for Koalition, which stands for the coming together of people,” president of K.O. Shannon Mulderig said.
The organization began four years ago when a San Diego State basketball player and his friends longed for a hip hop dance group on campus. According to Mulderig, the team is made up of girls from various backgrounds, cultures and dance training.
The team has performed at Aztec Nights events, pep rallies, various student organizations benefit shows and the 23rd annual California State University at Long Beach Step Show. The showcase on Wednesday will include performances from University Dance Company, the ballroom and Latin dance club, the exercise and nutritional sciences hip hop dance class, Ladylike and Stateside Breaks.
“We are excited for our first annual K.O. Hip Hop Dance Showcase that will present all the hard work we have accomplished this year,” Mulderig said. “We hope to showcase our members’ individual and unique styles as well as those of our guest performers.”
